Albert Arnold Gore, Jr., was actually born on March 31, 1948, in Washington D.C. He was the second child of Albert Gore Sr., a U.S. Representative and Senator from Tennesse, and Pauline LaFon Gore. His mother was simply one of the first women to graduate from Vanderbilt University Law School. During his youth, Al Gore would very much enjoy spending his summers on his family's farm in a small town in Tennessee, called Carthage. In 1965, Al Gore graduated from St. Albans School for Boys in Washington D.C. At school, he was class treasurer for two years. He earned top grades and won a "National Merit" scholarship. During his senior year, Al Gore was named captain of the football team. Al Gore graduated from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in May 1969, with a bachelor's degree in government. From the time Al Gore was a young boy, he was surrounded by politics. Since childhood, Albert Gore Jr., was popular, active, hard working , serious, and intelligent. Al Gore had a great relationship with his parents as well as his sister, Nancy. They always gave Al Gore support, advice and encouragement in all his efforts. On May 19, 1970, Al Gore married Mary Elizabeth Aitcheson known as "Tipper" at National Cathedral in Washington D.C. In August 1973, Al Gore's first child, Karenna, was born. In June 1977, his second daughter, Kristin was born. In January 1979, his third daughter, Sarah, was born. And finally, in October 1982, his son Albert III, was born. Al Gore once said: "I am a father and I feel deeply about my responsibility for my children."
